Job Summary - Geologist
Manage and direct the activities of the Geology Department to maintain effective mine geology, hydrology, geotechnical and development drilling programs.



  • Ensure compliance with and adherence to all MSHA and company safety regulations, policies and procedures

  • Direct pre-feasibility evaluation of production opportunities

  • Manage geotechnical issues in the pit

  • Maintain an effective ore control program

  • Supervision of the Geology Staff

  • Contribute to the writing, compilation, and management of surface mining, NPDES, and other regulatory permit application projects

  • Compilation and analysis of exploration data (reconnaissance information, photos, drill logs, rock and soil samples, etc.)

  • Compilation and analysis of water sampling data

  • Soil, rock and water (surface and groundwater) sampling

  • Coordination and oversight of subcontractors

  • Detailed field notation and drill logging

  • Mapping and map reading

  • Manage an effective exploration program

  • Manage an effective hydrology program

  • Direct site development drilling programs

  • Develop other department personnel to perform duties noted above

  • May perform other related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology

  • 10-15 years’ experience in exploration and min geology

  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • General understanding of mining operations

  • Computer working knowledge and skilled with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team

  • Presentation skills – ability to effectively present mine and exploration programs to mine management, owners, etc.

  • Ability to direct and implement quality geological processes for the continuation of mine life

  • Ability to prioritize and re-arrange schedule to meet immediate/unplanned requirements



Work Conditions

  • Ability to work rotating day/night shifts

  • Ability to work overtime

  • Ability to work outside in all weather extremes

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing this work (safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, respirator, etc as needed)
